In the past two months...

I have:
  • Been to Pennsylvania for a long weekend
  • Been to Orlando for a long weekend
  • Been to the border of the Carolinas for wisdom
  • Enjoyed seeing the growth of a life with Jesus in others
  • Been low enough to wonder of God's existence
  • Ran two races and am now peaking in order to run a half marathon at the end of October
  • Read a cult classic book about running
That's enough for now.

Counting Crows/Maroon 5 Charlotte

The atmosphere was one of heartbreak last evening. M5 played first and said everything you wanted to say to an Ex. I gained much respect for them after hearing them live. They did a great mix of "Wicked Game" and "She Will Be Loved".

By the time the 'Crows came on you were to the grieving point of the broken relationship. This hobbled Adam stepped forward to pave the way for us to lean on each other during such hard times. Played an old/original set consisting of such favourites as "Omaha" and "Rain King". Finished off with "Walkaways".....very nice; just the same way all relationships should end.

Phillies 4, Braves 3

Hotlanta.....wow, what a game. I didn't have tickets for the game, but I know that God provides...legally. I sat in the outfield for most of the game, three rows from the field...just like before. Mostly, a pitchers duel....until the ninth when the Phillies scored on a dropped infield fly ball....ouch. So, go to extra innings....it was all the Flyin' Hawaiian needed to hear. Victorino hits a go-ahead triple in the top of the tenth, and saves the game by throwing out the tying run at the plate with a strike from center field. Awesome fireworks display after the game!!

Eli Stone

A modern-day prophet who's a lawyer...are you kidding me?? It seems like I'm the only person who watches this amazing show. In fact, it's the only series I've not gotten away from after two weeks. Last week was the season finale, and I'm praying for a second season. I don't know when or if they will release this first season on DVD, but I think Tivo will hold me over until then. Please join me in praising Jesus for Tivo!! Really, you should have watched this show, it's was good cool down after Lost every Thursday evening.

34:40

This is the road that made me a runner. I used to run an up and back daily when I first started running outside. I took time today to retrace my footsteps and thoughts about such a place. There have been many changes since I first started out here, but the feeling I get from running hasn't. I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm older and well maybe, just a bit wiser.

About two months ago, I talked about how I've been waiting for this day. The Counting Crows released a new album today!! They also announced their summer tour dates with Maroon Five. I plan on being at the show in Charlotte in July and Atlanta in October....see you there.

New to me music

An update of recent listens:

Rosanne Cash: what a voice, her Crossroads show with Steve Earle was awesome...look forward to seeing her live soon

Joe Jackson, Steppin' Out: a new wave fella puts on his best top hat for the evening in this one

Indigo Girls: yeah, that's what I said....harmony between the two of them makes the music worth it

James Blunt, 1973: sounds like it came from the same year

New Grass Revival, One More Love Song: a great bluegrass song; to me it tells of the way I should be in love with Jesus

Tom Petty, Saving Grace: "You keep running for another place, to find that saving grace....don't 'cha baby?"

Zombie Nation, Kernkraft 400: if you've seen a majour sporting event in the past year, then you know this song...and know how it can get a crowd VERY excited. It was rumoured that engineers at Beaver Stadium/ Happy Valley told those in charge NOT to play this song...it might literally bring the stadium crumbling down with over 108,000 people jumping up and down.

The Goo Goo Dolls, Better Days: the guys from Buffalo nail it with this one....I saw them in concert two years ago....Johnny (the lead singer), is directly quoted...."How can such a dirty mouth(his own), write such beautiful songs?"

Eagles, Seven Bridges Road: no better harmony....and it's done live

Enjoy, as I do
