Book Review Three

This was a book that I read for a book "discussion" group. It tells of Christopher Reeve's life before, during and after his accident. Good details for any fan of Superman, theatre, the human body and openness. It was amazing to read how he was able to transfer his passion for acting and outdoor recreation to being a spokesperson for those with spinal cord injuries, and being active in Democratic government.

Silence of Snow

As I was getting excited about Spring just a few days ago...you know, when it was above sixty for at least two days...we got another snowstorm. Well, THIS one belongs to me. It snowed/sleeted/wintry mixed most of yesterday and into the early hours of this morn. I was up 'round midnight, so I decided to take a walk. Of course, I had purpose...off to the bank and the post office, and I took plenty of mental pictures. Considering I've still got South Carolina in the future, this had the makings of the last snow I might see.
If you never experienced the silence of snow, I guess you just wouldn't understand. Breathing in cold; feeling the slight sting of snow as it falls on uncovered skin...amazing. The way it creates visibility in the dark...moon shadows, mmmm. That's enough for now.

Carolina on My Mind

The last two days have been long overdue. You see, up here in PA, we have what is called wintertime....with cold temperatures and occasionally snow. BUT...it's been at least 60 degrees in the afternoons of the last two days....refreshing. Time for windows down and music up...and just in time...a great toy that plays me iTunes through me truck's stereo...YEE-HAW!!!
So, with iTunes on shuffle I make my way...here's how it went the first day...

I Keep Forgettin'-Michael McDonald....I've already talked about this one

Rasberry Beret-Prince...."where did all the rasberry women go?"

Tilt Ya Head Back-Nelly and Christina Aguilera....Yeah, I dance in my truck!!

Enough-Barlow Girl..."still more awesome than I know"

My Love-Justin Timberlake...Interesting to see the same people who made fun of me for listening to Michael Jackson(even before all the scandal) say NOTHING about JT...could he be the next MJ?

What If Jesus Comes Back Like That?-Colin Raye...enough said in the song title

Funny how I spend everyday protecting my hearing at work, but crank the music for the ride home.
It's also been light in the evenings..if you haven't noticed. Great time to run outside....YES!!

This might be a bit premature...but I'm too excited about it...65 more days.
BTW...I have a job waiting for me....quite a blessing...YAY JESUS!!!
One more....I was born a yankee.....I was born again southern fried...mmm I like that one and proud to admit it.

Speak

I've never been much of a talker; I usually was the silent type who'd respectfully listen to what others had to say. Confession: I never said much, because I never thought I had much to contribute. So I find myself way outside my comfort zone lately when I am constantly talking. It gets to the point when my throat becomes sore, (especially those gusts of 30,000 words per day) but I push through from what is not easy to what is right. I want people to know where I'm coming from, where my heart is; and not just by my actions.

iTunes Shuffle

Here's what I've been listening to:

  • I Keep Forgettin'- Michael McDonald....Forget the Warren G sample, the original is so much better.
  • God's Gonna Cut You Down-Johnny Cash...Very sobering, fundamentalist-style.
  • Trouble-Ray LaMontagne...What a name, just fun to say. This is off his 2004 offering, his latest is as equally good.
  • Best of You(Aucoustic)- Foo Fighters...I don't know how Dave keeps his voice...love the audience participation.
  • Sunday in the South-Shenandoah...If you are from the south, this IS the way it is.
  • The Way We Move-The Takeover...Local guys poised to hit it big.
  • Nutville/Pools-Buddy Rich(originally)/David Garfield...These are great jazz songs, although, my high school jazz band performed them much better.
  • Looking for You-Kirk Franklin...This is MY type of Gospel.
  • Rosalita(Come Out Tonight)-Bruce Springsteen...Alright, if you are a child of the 80's, you know how awesome Born in the USA is, but Bruce's older stuff is much better. Pick up Born To Run and see what I mean.
  • We're All in This Together-Ben Lee...I remind myself of this everyday.
  • Jolene-The White Stripes...It's live, it's loud, it's a cover.
  • Take My Hand-Shawn McDonald...My favourite contemporary artist.
  • Blister in the Sun-Violent Femmes....Update on this song coming soon.
What have you been listening to?
